Aspen's ski shops sit in a tight ring around the base of Aspen Mountain. Most are on E Durant Avenue between Hunter Street and Gondola Plaza, a few steps from the Silver Queen Gondola, with the outerwear and backcountry shops a block or two north on the pedestrian malls. You can rent skis, get boots fitted, buy a jacket and drop off a tune without moving your car. This guide sorts them by what you need: a rental, a demo or a purchase, a boot fit, or used gear. Every shop below is in our Downtown Aspen listings.
When the Season Starts
Aspen One has published the 2026–27 dates: Aspen Mountain and Snowmass open on Nov. 26, 2026, and Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk open on Dec. 12. Aspen Mountain is scheduled to close April 18, 2027, all as conditions allow. Late October through Thanksgiving is the off-season, so check hours before you walk over. Radio Boardshop, for one, posts winter hours of 9am to 6pm and summer hours of 11am to 6pm.
Renting at the Gondola
The Resort's Own Shops
Aspen Skiing Co. runs two rental brands. Four Mountain Sports (520 E Durant Ave) is the downtown store: ski and snowboard rentals, a snowboard shop, pro bootfitting, tuning and lift-ticket sales, open 9am to 5pm. Rentals are stored overnight at no charge and moved to whichever of the four mountains you ski the next day, which helps if you split a week between Aspen Mountain and Highlands. The resort's rentals page offers up to 20% off when you book 30 or more days ahead and up to 10% off at seven days. If you drop off a tune after 5pm, it won't be ready the next morning, only the day after.
Aspen Collection (Gondola Plaza) (611 E Durant Ave) is the premium tier, and the shop sits right at the gondola. It sets dedicated fitting times, rents skis from Blizzard, Kästle, DPS, Völkl and Renoun, boots from Tecnica and K2, and snowboards from Burton and Jones, and stores your gear free. There is a café for espresso and wine while you wait. Buy a qualifying kit in the store under its Ski Free offer and a one-day lift ticket comes with it.
Independent Rental Shops
Incline Ski & Board Shop (555 E Durant Ave) is locally owned and has been in business more than 25 years; its listing shows 8am to 6pm daily, and you can reserve online. At the same address, Gorsuch Aspen Ski Cafe (555 E Durant Ave) is the Gorsuch ski shop with rentals and demos and a café, open 8am to 6pm. On the other side of downtown, Christy Sports (St. Regis) (303 E Durant Ave) sells skis, rents skis and snowboards, tunes and repairs both, and does custom boot fitting inside the St. Regis, open daily 9am to 5pm. It is the easy pick if you are staying there; our hotels guide has the St. Regis and the other downtown hotels.
Demos, Boots and Tuning
Demo Before You Buy
A demo rental puts current-model, higher-end skis on your feet, which is the best way to choose a ski before you buy one. Ask whether any demo fees count toward a purchase. Hamilton Sports (520 E Durant Ave) is a demo and rental outfit with an award-winning repair shop, per the Aspen Chamber; call for hours. Gorsuch's Ski Cafe also rents demos and the Aspen Collection rents premium skis, so you can try two or three pairs over a week before you commit.
Boot Fitting
Boots are where a ski shop earns its money. Four Mountain Sports lists pro bootfitting, Christy Sports lists custom boot fitting, and the Aspen Collection books dedicated fitting times. Bring the socks you ski in, tell the fitter where your current boots hurt, and book the first morning of your trip so there is time to come back for adjustments after a day on the hill.
Tunes and Repairs
Four Mountain Sports takes tunes, Hamilton Sports has a repair shop and Christy Sports does tuning and repair. Drop skis off in the morning: at Four Mountain Sports, a tune dropped off after 5pm is ready the day after, not the next morning.
What to Have Ready
Reserve before you arrive, especially for Christmas and Presidents' Day weeks, and you get the advance-booking discount too. If you are skiing more than a few days, price a standard package against a premium or demo package for the whole trip rather than per day. Tell the shop which mountain you plan to ski each day so your gear is waiting at the right base.
Buying Skis, Boots and Ski Wear
Ski Wear
Several of the ski-wear shops sit within a block or two of the gondola. Performance Ski (614 E Durant Ave) specializes in luxury and performance European ski wear, open daily 8am to 7pm. Miller Sports (408 S Hunter St) is a ski shop that Aspen Snowmass lists among the high-fashion ski shops; call ahead for hours. Gorsuch (The Little Nell) (611 E Durant Ave) sells skiwear and ski accessories with casualwear, home goods and gifts, 9am to 6pm, and Gorsuch Cooper Avenue (419 E Cooper Ave) carries the same mix in town, 10am to 6pm. Fusalp (420 E Hyman Ave) sells technical ski wear combined with lifestyle apparel.
For the designer ski labels, including the Moncler Grenoble flagship on Hyman Avenue, see our guide to luxury shopping in Aspen.
Snowboards
Radio Boardshop (400 E Hopkins Ave, Unit 1) is the snowboard shop. Travis McLain founded it in 2005, and Aspen Snowmass calls it the town's only dedicated snowboard gear and outerwear store. It also sells skate and lifestyle apparel.
Backcountry, Touring and Nordic
Ute Mountaineer (210 S Galena St) has been Aspen's locally owned outdoor specialty shop since 1977, at the corner of S Galena and E Hyman, with gear for climbers, skiers and hikers. Nearby, Arc'teryx (534 E Cooper Ave) is the Canadian brand's technical outdoor apparel and equipment store.
Secondhand and Consignment
Aspen's resale shops are the budget route to used gear and clothing. Replay Sports (465 N Mill St, Ste 11) is a sporting goods consignment shop; it's north of the malls, so call before you go. Susie's Ltd. Consignments (600 E Main St, Ste 8) is a high-end consignment boutique with designer, streetwear and athletic clothing. The volunteer-run Aspen Thrift Shop (422 E Hopkins Ave), next to the fire station, sells donated clothing and sportswear, with prices starting in the single digits.
When the lifts close, Ajax Tavern is in The Little Nell, steps from the gondola. Our MICHELIN guide covers the rest of the town's dining.
