Insider guide

Shopping Downtown.

The story

Downtown Aspen is a compact grid, and the pedestrian mall is its center. The brick mall covers stretches of E Hyman Ave, S Mill St, E Cooper Ave and S Galena St. It was completed in 1976, and city council designated it a historic landmark in 2017. The designer labels sit on two sides of it. S Galena St has Dior (203), Gucci (204), Zegna (211), Valentino (304) and Prada (312), and S Mill St has Louis Vuitton (206) and Chrome Hearts (208). On the malls themselves, Hermès is at 521 E Hyman, Moncler at 432 E Hyman, Brunello Cucinelli at 508 E Cooper and Ralph Lauren at 501 E Cooper.

Boutiques, galleries and secondhand

The independents fill the Cooper Ave and Hopkins Ave blocks. Pitkin County Dry Goods, TWP and Alice Walk are the local-boutique stops, and Kemo Sabe is at 217 S Galena. Cooper is also the densest gallery block: Raven (433), Hexton (447), Christopher Martin (525), Eden (534), Galerie Maximillian (602) and Casterline|Goodman (611) are all within a couple of blocks, and Baldwin Gallery is at 209 S Galena. For secondhand, Susie's Ltd. Consignments sells designer and athletic clothing, and Aspen Thrift Shop is volunteer-run, with proceeds going to local nonprofits.

Ski and outdoor shops near the gondola

The ski shops cluster on E Durant Ave toward the base of Aspen Mountain: Four Mountain Sports and Hamilton Sports, Incline Ski & Board Shop, Performance Ski and Christy Sports. Gorsuch and Aspen Collection share 611 E Durant, and The Little Nell Boutique is at 675 E Durant. Arc'teryx is at 534 E Cooper. Four Mountain Sports lets you swap rentals to the next day's mountain at no charge, which helps if you split days across the four mountains. Aspen Mountain rises straight from town and skis advanced and expert terrain. Buttermilk is the beginner mountain, Highlands is the locals' mountain, and Snowmass is the largest.

Seasons and closures

Aspen shops and restaurants follow the ski calendar. For 2026-27, Aspen Mountain and Snowmass are scheduled to open November 26, and Highlands and Buttermilk December 12, with closing days from April 4 to April 18, 2027, as conditions allow. Mud season runs roughly late April through late May. Many restaurants close for several weeks in spring, with reopening dates that change every year, so check before you go. Some galleries also shorten their hours. Summer brings the Saturday Market, a U-shaped route from Galena and Hopkins to Hunter and back to Hyman and Galena, running Saturdays from early June to early October. The Aspen Music Festival and School runs eight weeks each summer. Radio Boardshop moves from winter hours (9am to 6pm) to summer hours (11am to 6pm).
